New Traditions Arise for Jags

Y’all may have noticed a big red couch at the football games these past few weeks. It is a new tradition the students are starting here at the high school to try and get the students and community more involved at sporting events.

The couch, or as the students call it, “the spirit couch” goes to all sporting events for the one student who has shown the most school spirit in the week leading up to the game.

Seth Golden (11), a member of the Ring of Fire flag running team, puts it this way.” We are trying to get the students more involved at games and to raise the school spirit since we are a new school.”

According to Victoria Needels (10), she loved sitting on the couch because she got to get loud with the Ring of Fire flag running team.

Ryan Long  (11) had this to say,” The couch is a great way to watch the game with your buds and not have to deal with the screaming crowd.”

The athletes themselves think that it’s a cool idea for the fans.

Hogan Keasler (11), a kicker for the Varsity football team, says, “The couch provides the fans a fantastic experience that not many people get to have.” Keasler adds, “It’s motivating to look down the field and see a group of students cheering us on along with the Rowdy Reds.”
