New beginnings for FCCLA

First meeting on Friday, Sept. 18.

Courtney Cook, Staff Member

There will be an FCCLA Meeting on Friday, September 18, during A and B TASSEL.  This meeting will be held in Danielle Baze’s classroom 116.  FCCLA invites anyone who has taken a Family and Consumer Science class or anyone who is interested in joining to attend the meeting.

Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) was established to provide students with leadership skills and further personal growth by focusing on the family and community.  Today, there are approximately 219,000 FCCLA members in the 6,500 chapters around the country.

“I joined because I thought it was a good opportunity to help my community,” FCCLA historian Liliana Martinez (10) said.  “I’m excited to participate in FCCLA events, meet new people, and get engaged with my community.”

FCCLA members can compete in Student Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) events.  STAR events offer individual skill and leadership development through competitive, individual, and cooperative competitions.

“I enjoyed competition season the most last year during FCCLA, because we had an opportunity to build relationships with other members and really see their true colors,” current FCCLA  member Marissa Villarreal (10) said.
