What I’ve Learned from Being Locked Inside

Liam Smith, Writer

Being locked inside can be frustrating for some, and a dream for others. Personally Being locked in with my family has proven to be challenging. I will say though, in these history-making moments, I’ve learned quite a bit of valuable life lessons. There’s a lot of things to keep in mind in the trying times and it’s important to remember them, especially if you find yourself going a little mad in the midst of quarantine.

I don’t think I remember going this long stayed in, isolated with my close family. In my teenage years, I found myself growing ever distant from my parents, and now we’re closer than ever, which proves challenging. However, It has taught me how vital they are to me, and how they’ve shaped me. I know not everyone can relate, but whoever your guardian or close family is, hopefully, has your best interest at heart. Even if you don’t agree all the time.

This entire panic and pandemic happened so fast, I was blindsided by the results, and it feels like most others were too. I never realized how important it is to be prepared for situations like this. You don’t think about how much we rely on business and everyday jobs. We are seeing a historical low in the economy, and worldwide panic. If there’s one thing I’ll always keep in mind from now on, it’s be prepared for anything.

The last thing I have to recommend, in this mentally draining boredom caused by COVID-19, is stay entertained. There are hundreds of outlets you can get into right from your house. Things like online games, or plenty of artistic outlets like writing and drawing. You have to remember to stay sane, and having outlets to relax is vital to doing so. Even if your family gets together and watches a movie, then talk about it over dinner.

Please, remember to stay sane and stay inside. I think I can speak for all of us here at the roar when I say: I hope you’re staying safe. Keep supporting school outlets, and go Jags.
