SANTA ANA, Calif. — A 72-year-old grandfather died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle at a busy Santa Ana intersection, leaving his family mourning a devastating loss.
Robert Fore was cycling near McFadden Avenue and Fairview Street shortly before 7 p.m. local time on Friday, Sept. 4, when a vehicle hit him from behind.
The force of the collision threw Fore from his bicycle and left him with serious injuries in the roadway, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
Police officers who were working in the area witnessed the crash and immediately rushed to help.
Police Attempt Lifesaving Measures
Santa Ana officers responded to the collision moments after it happened and found Fore suffering from significant injuries.
Officers began lifesaving measures at the scene as they waited for additional emergency assistance. Despite their efforts, Fore’s injuries proved fatal.
He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
The circumstances of the crash have raised questions about what happened in the moments before the vehicle struck Fore. Investigators are now working to determine the full sequence of events.
Driver Remains at Scene After Fatal Crash
The driver involved in the collision stayed at the scene following the crash and has been cooperating with investigators, according to police.
Authorities also said there was no indication that the driver was impaired at the time of the collision.
The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Fore’s death.
As the investigation continues, officials have not indicated that criminal charges have been filed against the driver.

Fore’s death has left his family devastated, particularly his daughter, Robin Fore, and granddaughter.
Robin described the loss as deeply painful in a GoFundMe campaign created to help her family cover the costs associated with her father’s final services.
“I miss my dad so much and wish I could spend more time with him and see him again,” she wrote.
She also said her daughter has been struggling with the loss of her grandfather, making the tragedy especially difficult for the family.
Robin remembered her father as “an amazing person” and highlighted the time he spent helping others throughout his life.
She said Fore had devoted a significant part of his life to helping people with mental health, describing that work as an important part of who he was.

Family Seeks Help to Honor His Life
In her fundraising appeal, Robin explained that the family was struggling to afford the expenses connected to Fore’s services.
“I am asking for help because I cannot afford the cost of the services on my own,” Robin wrote. “I want to give my dad a beautiful service and honor his life with the care and dignity he deserves.”
The family’s grief comes as investigators continue working to establish exactly how the fatal collision occurred.
