Irvine, California — A 65-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly stealing more than $1,200 worth of clothing from a Lululemon store at the Irvine Spectrum Center, according to the Irvine Police Department.
Police said the theft happened earlier this month when the woman entered the store carrying several tote bags. She was reportedly seen casually browsing through the merchandise before surveillance footage captured her allegedly removing clothing from racks and display shelves.
Investigators said she then placed the items inside her bags before eventually leaving the store without paying.
Surveillance Footage Captures Alleged Theft
According to the Irvine Police Department, the woman entered the Lululemon location at the Irvine Spectrum Center carrying multiple tote bags.
At first, she reportedly appeared to be shopping like any other customer.
However, surveillance footage allegedly showed her taking clothing from racks and display areas and quickly placing the merchandise inside the bags she had brought with her.
The footage became an important part of the store’s response as loss prevention staff monitored the situation.
Police said the woman ultimately left the store without paying for the merchandise. The value of the clothing allegedly taken was estimated at more than $1,200.
Police Find Her at Another Store
After the woman left the Lululemon location, loss prevention staff contacted authorities. Officers responded to the Irvine Spectrum Center and began searching for the woman.
Police eventually located her inside another store at the shopping center, where she was reportedly still browsing. Officers detained the woman and searched the bags she was carrying.
According to police, they found more than $1,200 worth of Lululemon merchandise inside the bags. The discovery allegedly connected the merchandise to the earlier theft at the Lululemon store.
Woman Identified as Lake Forest Resident
Police identified the woman only as a Lake Forest resident and did not publicly provide her name in the information released about the arrest.
She was taken into custody following the investigation and booked at the Orange County Jail. Authorities said she was booked on a felony shoplifting charge.
The arrest remains an allegation, and the criminal charge does not by itself establish guilt. The case will proceed through the legal system, where the allegations can be challenged.
