BROOKLYN, New York City — A chaotic series of alleged carjackings unfolded across Brooklyn late Thursday night, beginning with two 16-year-old boys allegedly confronting a man with a gun and ending with one suspect accused of driving a stolen SUV directly toward a police officer.
According to the NYPD, the rampage began around 7:40 p.m. on East 16th Street near Avenue P in the Homecrest neighborhood.
Police said the two teens approached a 24-year-old man, displayed a gun and attempted to rob him. But the victim managed to get away before the pair could take anything.
The two suspects then allegedly continued moving through the neighborhood, apparently looking for another target.
Suspects Allegedly Steal Toyota Camry
Police said the pair headed toward East 15th Street and Avenue O, where they allegedly confronted a 23-year-old man.
This time, the suspects are accused of using a gun to force the man out of his Toyota Camry. The teenagers then allegedly jumped into the vehicle and drove away.
Their escape, however, did not last long. According to authorities, the stolen Camry crashed shortly afterward, bringing police closer to the suspects.
One of the teens was arrested following the crash, police said. The second suspect managed to flee the area and continued the alleged crime spree on foot.
That second teen would soon be accused of another car theft, setting the stage for an even more dangerous confrontation with police.
Second Carjacking Leads to Police Confrontation
After running from the scene, the remaining suspect allegedly approached a 54-year-old woman who was standing outside her Toyota RAV-4 on Kimball Street near Avenue T.
Police said the teen got behind the wheel of the SUV and drove away. The suspect allegedly headed toward East 100th Street and Avenue K as officers worked to locate the stolen vehicle.
Around 8:40 p.m., police caught up with the RAV-4 and attempted to stop the driver by blocking the street. Instead of stopping, authorities said the teen drove onto the sidewalk toward an officer.
The officer then fired a shot at the vehicle, according to police. The teen was not struck by the gunfire and continued driving away, authorities said.
Stolen SUV Crashes Again Before Arrest
The pursuit finally came to an end near Pennsylvania and Wortman avenues, where police said the RAV-4 crashed. Officers then arrested the teen, ending the series of alleged carjackings that had unfolded across Brooklyn in roughly an hour.
The incident left investigators with several questions, including what prompted the teens to allegedly continue the spree after the first attempted robbery and how the second suspect managed to evade officers following the initial crash.

Police have not indicated that either teen was injured during the crashes or the officer-involved shooting.
Teens Face Multiple Charges
According to the NYPD, one of the teens was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and obstruction of governmental administration.
The other teen faces two counts of robbery, police said.
It was not immediately clear which of the two suspects was allegedly behind the wheel of the RAV-4 when the teen drove toward the officer.
The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is probing the police shooting, as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer’s use of force.
The allegations remain part of an ongoing investigation, and the charges against the teenagers are accusations unless proven in court.
The dramatic sequence—from an attempted robbery to multiple stolen vehicles, crashes and a confrontation with an NYPD officer—turned an evening in Brooklyn into a fast-moving police investigation.
