Woman Found in Grass Near Cemetery After Alleged Abduction and Knife Attack, Sheriff Says

Hoke County, NC — A woman was found lying in the grass beside a North Carolina road Saturday morning after she told authorities that two men abducted her, punched her in the face and attacked her with a knife before leaving her near a cemetery.

The woman told investigators she had been walking along the road when one man allegedly grabbed her and pulled her into a van. She described the vehicle as being either black or blue and said another man was driving.

According to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, the woman said she was then punched in the eye and assaulted with a knife before the men eventually dumped her near a cemetery.

The disturbing account prompted deputies to respond to the area, where they found the woman on the side of the road.

Deputies discover woman in roadside grass

Deputies responded Saturday morning to the intersection of Oakdale Gin Road and Scott Currie Road after receiving a report involving the woman.

A spokesperson for the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found her in the grass along the side of the road.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said her injuries were considered minor, despite the woman’s account of being punched and attacked with a knife.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction remained under investigation.

Officials have not publicly identified the woman or provided additional details about the two men she described. Investigators also did not immediately release further information about the van beyond the woman’s description of its possible color.

Sheriff’s office says there is no immediate public threat

Despite the disturbing allegations, authorities said residents do not appear to face an immediate danger connected to the incident.

The sheriff’s office said “this is believed to be an isolated incident” and there was no immediate threat to the public.

That assessment could provide some reassurance to people living or traveling through the area, although investigators were still working to establish exactly what happened and identify the individuals described by the woman.

Authorities have not indicated whether anyone had been arrested in connection with the case.

The investigation comes as deputies work to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction, including where the woman was taken, how long she was held and what happened before she was left near the cemetery.
