Palm Desert, CA — A 65-year-old woman is accused of killing her husband inside an upscale gated condominium community, months after a series of domestic-violence cases had resulted in a 100-yard protective order, according to authorities and court records.
Vicky Kyung Mi Kim was arrested and charged with one count of murder after Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to The Enclave, a luxury condominium development on Gateway Drive, at approximately 9:47 a.m. on Sept. 4.
Deputies were called to the community for a report of “unknown trouble,” according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
When deputies arrived, they found Kim’s husband suffering from traumatic injuries that authorities said were consistent with a physical assault. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kim was identified as the suspect and taken into custody without incident.
According to court records, Kim allegedly used a flagpole to inflict great bodily harm on her husband.
Previous domestic-violence cases involved the couple
The alleged killing followed a series of earlier criminal cases involving Kim and her husband.
Court records obtained by KESQ reportedly show that Kim was arrested six times between September 2025 and January 2026. During that period, prosecutors filed five domestic-violence cases against her involving a total of 10 criminal counts.
The allegations included battery, corporal injury to a spouse, violations of a protective order and elder abuse.
One case involved an allegation that Kim struck her husband in the nose following an argument involving finances and accusations of infidelity.
A sheriff’s deputy reportedly documented a visible injury to the man’s nose. Kim allegedly admitted to deputies that she had struck her husband three times.
The case initially included a felony charge for corporal injury, but court records reportedly show that the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor the following day.
A protective order was subsequently issued requiring Kim to stay at least 100 yards away from her husband.
Prosecutors say they sought stronger protections
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said prosecutors had attempted to secure stronger protections for the man during the earlier proceedings.
A spokesperson for the office said prosecutors had charged Kim with a felony in January, obtained criminal protective orders and planned to pursue the case aggressively.
Deputy District Attorney Salas, who is prosecuting the murder case, said the previous proceedings played a role in the decision to seek protective orders and oppose reducing the felony allegation.
He said prosecutors had concerns about the husband’s future safety and had objected to resolving the felony charge as a misdemeanor.
Despite those legal proceedings, authorities now allege that the husband was fatally assaulted.
Neighbor recalls seeing husband before his death
A neighbor also described an encounter with Kim’s husband roughly one week before the alleged killing. The neighbor said she and her roommate encountered an older man after he had fallen inside the gated community.

According to the neighbor, the man appeared extremely weak and needed significant assistance getting back on his feet.
“He was so feeble, I had to use all my weight to get him up,” she reportedly said. “He could barely walk. My hand was covered in blood.”
The account has added another detail to the timeline investigators are examining as they work to determine what happened before the fatal incident.
Murder arraignment delayed over medical concerns
Kim’s court proceedings have also faced delays.
Her arraignment was reportedly continued several times after the court determined that she was not medically fit to appear.
Her latest hearing was scheduled for Tuesday, with prosecutors seeking to have her held without bail.
The murder case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Kim have not been proven in court. The investigation and legal proceedings are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death and address the earlier domestic-violence cases involving the couple.
