DORAL, Fla. — A hotel stay in South Florida reportedly took a terrifying turn when a couple discovered a stranger hiding underneath their bed while they were staying at the Provident Doral hotel.
The incident allegedly happened in the early morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 10, after the couple had checked into their room the previous evening.
According to an arrest affidavit filed in Miami-Dade County courts, the man and woman entered their hotel room on Wednesday, Sept. 9. They closed the blinds covering the room’s rear sliding glass door and eventually went to sleep.
Neither reportedly realized that another person was allegedly inside the room.
The woman later told police that she felt movement near the bed at approximately 4 a.m. She apparently did not immediately realize what was happening and went back to sleep.
But several hours later, she reportedly noticed something again.
Woman Reports Movement Coming From Under Bed
According to the affidavit, the woman felt movement once more at approximately 6:30 a.m., this time appearing to come from underneath the bed.
She eventually decided to check beneath the bed.
At around 7:45 a.m., the woman reportedly looked underneath it to make sure she had not accidentally left or misplaced any of her belongings.
Instead, she allegedly saw a man hiding there. The discovery prompted the couple to immediately leave the hotel room and seek assistance from hotel security.
Police later identified the man as Ritchel Calvaire, who was arrested in connection with the incident that same day.
The circumstances described in the affidavit have raised questions about how Calvaire allegedly entered the room without the couple realizing someone else was there.
Police Say Suspect Had Been Told Not to Return
The hotel’s security manager reportedly told investigators that Calvaire had stayed at the property before. According to the affidavit, he checked out on Aug. 31 and had allegedly been instructed not to return to the hotel.
However, authorities say Calvaire came back approximately two days later. He was reportedly escorted from the property after collecting belongings he had previously left behind. Police allege that he later returned to the hotel again.
Investigators say Calvaire allegedly entered the occupied room by jumping over a balcony fence and going through the rear sliding glass door.
Once inside, police allege that he concealed himself beneath the victims’ bed while they slept.
The affidavit describes the alleged concealment as deliberate and stealthy, turning what should have been a routine hotel stay into a frightening encounter for the couple.
Calvaire Faces Burglary Charge
Calvaire was booked on Sept. 10 and is facing a felony charge of burglary of an occupied dwelling, according to public Miami-Dade County arrest and court records.
He is also facing a separate misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence.
The burglary allegation is particularly serious because the room was occupied when Calvaire allegedly entered and hid inside.
Still, the allegations contained in the arrest affidavit are not a finding of guilt, and the case will proceed through the court system. It is not immediately clear whether Calvaire has retained an attorney who could comment on the allegations against him.
Investigation and Court Case Continue
An initial hearing date had not been set, according to the court records cited in the report.
Authorities have not publicly provided additional details about why Calvaire allegedly entered the hotel room or how long he may have remained underneath the bed before the woman discovered him.
For the couple, however, the incident turned an ordinary overnight hotel stay into a deeply unsettling experience. The reported timeline—from the first unexplained movement in the early morning to the discovery of a stranger under the bed—left them seeking immediate help from hotel security.
The investigation and court proceedings will determine what happened and what evidence supports the allegations against Calvaire.
