MIAMI, Fla. — A teenage waitress who allegedly discovered that the businessman she was dating already had a girlfriend is now facing criminal charges after police say the relationship turned into an alleged $20,000 extortion scheme.
Nathalie Rodriguez Gonzalez, 19, was arrested Friday on allegations involving threats and extortion, according to WPLG Local 10.
Investigators say Rodriguez Gonzalez first met the businessman while working as a waitress at a restaurant where he was a customer. The two eventually began a relationship.
But according to police, everything changed after she allegedly learned that the man had been dating someone else at the same time.
Instead of ending the relationship quietly, investigators say Rodriguez Gonzalez began sending threatening messages and demanding money.
Police Say $20,000 Demand Followed Discovery
According to authorities, Rodriguez Gonzalez allegedly demanded $20,000 from the man and warned that the amount would increase by another $5,000 if he refused to comply.
Police say she threatened to distribute intimate photographs to people in the victim’s personal and professional life.
The alleged threats reportedly included sending the images to the man’s girlfriend and his business partner.
When the businessman refused to provide the money, investigators say Rodriguez Gonzalez followed through on at least part of the alleged threat.
She reportedly sent an intimate photograph to the business partner and then asked for the phone number of the man’s girlfriend.
That was followed by another alleged warning directed at the girlfriend.
Alleged Threats Escalate Across Social Media
The situation allegedly continued to escalate as Rodriguez Gonzalez sent additional messages.
According to police, she wrote messages demanding payment and threatening to release private material if the businessman did not cooperate.
One alleged message read, “The deportation does not have to happen, but I want my money.” Another allegedly warned that she would post explicit material and identify people connected to the businessman.
Police also say Rodriguez Gonzalez allegedly told the victim to “Give me my money or I escalate this worse.” The allegations did not stop with private messages.
According to the report, Rodriguez Gonzalez eventually posted a censored version of an intimate photograph along with other images on TikTok.
Investigators also reportedly found another message thread in which she wrote, “Remember I was tryna scam him, I’m finally getting to it.”
Businessman Takes Case to Police
After the alleged threats continued, the businessman went to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Kendall District station on Aug. 24.
According to the report, he identified Rodriguez Gonzalez from a photograph shown by investigators. Authorities then moved forward with the investigation, eventually taking Rodriguez Gonzalez into custody at her home on Friday.
She was taken to the station for questioning, where police reportedly said she gave a “full confession.”
The case now centers on whether the alleged threats and demands meet the legal requirements for extortion and other charges.
Rodriguez Gonzalez Held on $7,500 Bond
Following her arrest, Rodriguez Gonzalez was booked into the Turner Guilford Correctional Center near Miami International Airport.
Jail records reportedly listed her bond at $7,500. She later appeared to have been released, according to the report.
The allegations remain accusations, and the criminal case will determine what evidence can be presented against Rodriguez Gonzalez and whether she is ultimately held responsible for the charges.
The incident also serves as a reminder that disputes involving private images can quickly become serious criminal matters when threats or demands for money are allegedly involved.
For investigators, the next steps will focus on the messages, photographs, social media activity and other evidence surrounding the alleged $20,000 demand.
