Cincinnati, OH — A 7-year-old girl with disabilities died while riding home from school on a bus Wednesday, leaving her family searching for answers as police investigate what happened during the trip.
The child was identified as Ngone Talla, a student at Roselawn Condon School, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office and Cincinnati Public Schools. Talla was found unresponsive in her wheelchair after the school bus arrived at her family’s home.
Cincinnati police were called to the 4200 block of Colerain Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, to investigate the death.
Family Found Her Unresponsive on the Bus
Talla’s family told local media that the school bus appeared to remain outside their home for roughly 10 minutes before the wheelchair ramp was opened.
The family said they normally saw the rear doors of the bus open so Talla could be taken off in her wheelchair. When the doors did not open, they went outside to find out what was happening.
That was when they discovered the child unresponsive. Her sister described the moment as devastating.
“We went on the bus and I see my sister unresponsive and lifeless,” Binetou Talla told WLWT. “So I’m there, I’m mad. I’m yelling in the bus. I’m like, okay, how did this happen?”
The family has been left with questions about what happened while Talla was being transported home.
Coroner Says There Were No Traumatic Injuries
The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office said Talla had no traumatic injuries when she died.
According to the coroner’s office, the girl became unresponsive while in her wheelchair and had an extensive medical history, including cerebral palsy. Authorities have not publicly released a final cause of death.
A separate local report said sources told WXIX that Talla had become stuck in her seatbelt while on the bus. The coroner said the death appeared to be natural while the circumstances remained under investigation.
The available information does not establish that the seatbelt caused her death.
Father Questions What Happened During the Ride
Talla’s father, Abdoul Talla, said the bus had both a driver and another person who were expected to watch the children during transportation.
“The driver and a second person, they’re supposed to just watch carefully, the kids, because you can not have these kids in this bus and you’re not watching them,” he said.
He also mentioned that the weather had been very hot that day and said he was waiting for investigators to determine what happened.
The family’s questions remain part of an investigation that authorities have not yet completed.
Cincinnati Schools Mourn Student’s Death
Cincinnati Public Schools confirmed that Talla attended Roselawn Condon School and said the community was grieving her death.
“This is an unimaginable loss for them and a heartbreaking day for the Roselawn Condon community,” the district said.
The district’s Crisis Response Unit was sent to the school to support students and employees following the tragedy.
First Student, the private company operating the bus involved, also confirmed that it was cooperating with Cincinnati Public Schools and local authorities.
The company said it could not provide additional details because the investigation remains active.

Police Investigation Continues
The Cincinnati Police Department is continuing its death investigation as authorities work to establish exactly what happened to Talla during her ride home.
At this point, officials have confirmed that there were no traumatic injuries, while the coroner continues examining the circumstances surrounding her death.
