By a score of 5-0 in Game 5, the Texas Rangers took down the Arizona Diamondbacks to win their first World Series in franchise history.
Second baseman Marcus Semien crushed a ninth-inning home run to help clinch the Rangers’ victory, and shortstop Corey Seager won his second World Series MVP.
Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen held a no-hitter in the seventh inning until the Rangers caught up and broke the 0-0 tie. The game would remain close until the beginning of the ninth inning, when Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald allowed three consecutive singles.
The Rangers would win this game without star outfielder Adolis Garcia after losing him to a left oblique injury sustained in Game 3.
After losing consecutive World Series in 2010 and 2011, the Rangers will be bringing the Commisioner’s Trophy back to Texas.
