MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A nighttime ride through northwest Miami-Dade ended in tragedy Wednesday when a 10-year-old girl and her older brother were struck by a vehicle while traveling on an electric bicycle.
The crash happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. near Northwest 117th Street and Northwest Seventh Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
What followed was a desperate emergency response. Deputies arrived at the scene and found both children unresponsive in the roadway.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews rushed the victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where both were initially treated in critical condition.
The girl, identified as Peyton, later died from her injuries. Her older brother survived the initial crash but remained in critical condition, according to authorities.
The driver involved in the collision did not remain at the scene, turning the incident into a deadly hit-and-run investigation.
Investigators Identify Vehicle Suspected in Hit-and-Run
According to investigators, the suspect vehicle was traveling northbound on Northwest Seventh Avenue as it approached Northwest 117th Street.
Authorities said the driver then made a left turn onto Northwest 117th Street.
At that point, the vehicle struck the two children, who were traveling along the street on an e-bike.
Investigators described the vehicle as a 2009 to 2012 silver or gray Nissan Versa.
The vehicle’s exact condition following the crash has not been detailed, but detectives are asking members of the community to carefully look at any security or surveillance footage that could help identify it.
Because the crash happened in an area where businesses and other properties may have cameras, investigators are particularly interested in video recorded around the time of the collision.
Deputies Urge Community to Check Security Cameras
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is now appealing directly to residents and business owners who may have witnessed the crash or captured the suspect vehicle on camera.
“I can only imagine how the parents feel in this situation,” an MDSO spokesperson said.
The spokesperson urged businesses in the area to review their surveillance footage and encouraged anyone who witnessed the collision to contact authorities.
“If you’re a business owner in this area and you happen to have cameras, please review your cameras,” the spokesperson said. “If you were here by chance to witness what occurred, please give us a call.”
That request could prove especially important as detectives work to identify the driver and determine exactly what happened in the moments before and after the collision.
Older Brother Remains Critically Injured
The crash has left a family facing an unimaginable loss, with Peyton dying at just 10 years old and her older brother critically injured.
Emergency crews transported both children to the trauma center after finding them in the roadway. Despite medical efforts, Peyton could not survive the injuries she sustained in the collision.
Her brother’s condition remains critical, according to the information released by authorities.
The investigation is being handled by detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit, who are working to reconstruct the crash and locate the driver.

Police Search for Nissan Versa Driver
Authorities have not announced an arrest in connection with the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are asking anyone who may have information about the vehicle, the driver or the moments surrounding the collision to come forward.
