UNIONTOWN, Pa. — A Pennsylvania man is facing a long list of criminal charges after authorities say he broke into his former partner’s home, held her and her family captive for days and allegedly forced one of the victims to help arrange a confrontation with another romantic partner.
Tylar Greenough is facing charges including two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping to inflict injury or terror, along with burglary, two counts of unlawful restraint and three counts of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another.
According to the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office, the alleged incident began at a home on Lincoln Street in Uniontown, a southwestern Pennsylvania city roughly 50 miles south of Pittsburgh.
The case has drawn particular attention because the woman involved reportedly had an active Protection from Abuse Order against Greenough.
Man Allegedly Broke Into Home Despite Protection Order
Authorities allege Greenough entered the woman’s home by climbing through a second-story window, despite the protection order that prohibited him from contacting or approaching her.
The woman was at the residence with her mother and the child she shared with Greenough when he allegedly entered.
Prosecutors say Greenough then held all three against their will and threatened them with a gun.
The Fayette County District Attorney’s Office said the alleged assaults occurred over several days and involved both the residence and a nearby hotel.
According to authorities, the two women suffered significant bruising and other injuries during the alleged assaults.
The accusations describe a prolonged ordeal rather than a single confrontation, with investigators alleging that the victims remained under Greenough’s control for several days.
Victim Allegedly Forced to Arrange Meeting
At one point, authorities say Greenough escalated the situation by allegedly forcing one of the women into the trunk of a vehicle.
According to a criminal complaint, the woman was allegedly forced to arrange a meeting with a new romantic partner. Prosecutors claim Greenough then attempted to run over the other person with the vehicle.
The alleged incident has become a central part of the case as investigators work to establish what happened during the days the victims were reportedly being held.
Authorities have not indicated that the new romantic partner was seriously injured in the alleged vehicle incident, while the two women reportedly sustained injuries connected to the assaults.
Police Arrest Greenough After He Returns
Uniontown police eventually arrested Greenough after authorities say he re-entered the Lincoln Street home.
Investigators allege he was carrying a firearm at the time, despite being legally prohibited from possessing one because he is a convicted felon.
The woman who lived at the residence was reportedly not there when Greenough returned. His arrest brought the alleged series of events to an end and led to the filing of multiple criminal charges.
Greenough is currently being held at the Fayette County Jail without bail, according to court records.
Protection Order Violation Adds Another Charge
In addition to the charges stemming from the alleged kidnapping and assaults, Greenough is also facing a separate contempt charge for allegedly violating an order or agreement.
The protection order is a significant part of the case because authorities say the woman had already obtained legal protection from Greenough before the alleged break-in.
Despite that order, prosecutors allege he entered her home and subjected her and her family to days of threats and violence.
The case highlights the challenges victims can face even after seeking legal protection from an alleged abuser.
Greenough’s Case Heads Back to Court
Greenough appeared for a preliminary arraignment Tuesday following his arrest.
He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 10, where the allegations against him will proceed through the next stage of the criminal case.
His separate contempt case is scheduled for court on Sept. 14.
The allegations against Greenough remain accusations, and the criminal proceedings will determine the facts and legal responsibility in the case.
For the victims and their family, however, authorities say the immediate ordeal ended only after police were able to arrest Greenough.
The investigation remains a stark example of how an alleged violation of a protection order can escalate into a much more serious and dangerous situation.
