Hey! My name is Avery Myers, and I know this is kinda cheesy but my partner in crime is the Mac Fleming IV, so obviously our only option was to be named Mac and Cheese. Besides being a part of a dream team, I’m also the newspaper editor-in-chief and a senior this year. To be honest, none of these titles are as cool as being considered Cheese. Anyways, when I’m not writing for our stellar newspaper I can be found reading, listening to music, watching films, drawing, and laughing with friends. Jaguar Media became a second home when I moved to this school, so I’m excited to be able to repay that favor this year.

Through her many solos, Paige Parsley (12) shines under the spotlight. Behind the scenes of Parsleys closing performance in Fiddler, work was being done to ensure perfection. Our backstage was pretty crammed, so moving set pieces on and off [was a problem], Parsley said. There were a few mic issues. Other than that, there were very little problems.

Sewing prayer shawls, Evelyn Nelson (9) and Lilyanne Marckwardt (10) work together to add to the growing amount of costumes. Fiddler on the Roof has numerous cast members, so the tech crew had to create an abundance of costumes.
Costuming has been crazy, Nelson said. We’ve sown a lot of dresses, aprons and head scarfs. It got so crazy that we were putting everything on the choir storage room and the shelf fell.

Exploring the Gaylord in Grapevine, the theater class takes a break from their competitions at the Texas Thespian Festival. With contests in solo musicals, group scenes and many more, students like Jailen Readoux (12) were felt slightly overwhelmed. When you’re at your own school you’re good and whatever, Readoux said, but when you go to a competition with like 7,000 kids and all these different schools, they’re all good at theater, so you feel really small in that moment.”

Depicting the world she wishes to create, Whitney Flach (12) sketches a map to use while writing her novel. The book started in January of this year, and Flach has already planned for the future. “I intend to let Kate [Maddison (12)] read it because she’s an editor and stuff, Flach said, so I want her to look over it and see if there’s something she would change.”

It is common for students to get jobs during high school, but many question the aid and accommodation school offers in preparing students for those jobs. Students from around campus answered questions and reflected over just how well school is prepping them for the outside world.

On a display in the library, many previously banned books are set out for any students to see. The collection was created by Stephenson in honor of Banned Book week. People have a lot of questions about it, so really that’s the big thing that we’re doing, Stephenson said. It’s just fielding conversations about whats been banned in the past, why they’ve been banned, and talking about why we want to try to protect books even if we dont necessarily agree with their contents.”
