“The Legend of Zelda” is one of the first Nintendo properties with a history spanning over 35 years, with many games to tell the story of Link and Zelda. Nintendo’s most recent addition to the series, Breath of the Wild, is the best by far in the popular game series because of its grand scale, new mechanics, and impressive graphics.

The game came out in early 2017 and it was an amazing experience, quickly becoming a classic to the gaming community. It revolutionized open-world gaming with the largest open-world game map ever and the ability to climb anything that you could come into contact with. It was the first Zelda game to utilize climbing and the first that gave you the ability to jump, revolutionizing the series as a whole as well.

“Breath of the Wild” uses cell-type shading to achieve an aesthetically pleasing visual throughout the game and uses minimalistic piano and orchestra music to add to the overall atmosphere of the kingdom of Hyrule. This is a far cry from the previously grand and full music that games like “The Ocarina of Time” are well known for. This game changed so much previously established in “The Legend of Zelda” series, making it the most revolutionary game of it’s kind. Technologically this game is running on the most powerful system that any of the Zelda games ever have and takes advantage of that with stunning graphics and beautiful visuals.

Out of all the games in the series before it, Breath of the Wild is the first, true open-world Zelda game bringing a sense of complete freedom and adventure right from the start. The non-linear game structure and the ability to climb almost anything and choose to go in any direction from the start of the game makes the game feel truly free and absolutely nothing like the linear games that preceded it. “Breath of the Wild” is the first in its series to integrate a cooking system, armour system, customization, climbing, gliding, and so much more. It’s clear to see why this is the most revered game in it’s series.

Critics and players loved this game, IGN giving it a ten out of ten and calling it a “masterpiece”, along with Metacritic giving a score of 97/100. This game is very long, taking around 200 hours to fully complete, but it is completely worth it. Scores show that people really do love this game. It is the highest scored Legend of Zelda game on both websites aforementioned, testifying to how great it truly is.
