What Is Sex Addiction?

In light of recent events involving people claiming to have ‘sex addiction’, we need to take a look at what it actually is. The definition of a sex addict is “a person often engages in risky sex, has a lot of sexual partners and often mixes sex with drugs or alcohol.”

Many people (often rich and famous) claim to have a ‘sex addiction’ as a way to excuse and justify their actions. Think of Tiger Woods, Harvey Weinstine, or most recently, the man who shot up three massage parlors.

“It’s not real, it never has been,” Paige Issacs (10) said. “It’s just made for people who commit infidelity to feel better.”

Her opinion contradicts that of several others, who, with equal conviction, outright state it’s real.

“Yeah, sex addiction’s real,” Matthew Thomas (12) said. “Any kind of good feeling can be addictive.”

Several others share this viewpoint, but few with such certainty.

”I suppose it exists,” Logan Espinoza (10) said. “We can become addicted to anything to certain degrees.”

Despite this, people still think this condition shouldn’t qualify as any type of criminal defense, to justify their actions.

“If they rape someone that’s illegal and bad,” River Bartlett (10) said. “If they can’t control themselves, they should have gotten help.”
