On Friday, Mar. 26, 2020, the varsity girl’s soccer team won their game against Diamond-Hill Jarvis, 12 to zero. This game advanced them into round two of the playoffs.

The girls faced a fairly easy team, therefore they were able to work on their skills and strengthen as a team.

“It’s hard not to slip into the mindset of thinking that a team is easy when we should be treating them as if it’s the hardest game we are going to play,” Sydney Dickson (11) said. “We normally do a good job of this but a reminder never hurts.”

With an easier team, the girls had to focus on not stooping down their level of play.

“We had many good offensive combinations up at the top that lead to great finishes,” Jaedyn Barela (12) said.

With a strong offense as a team, they were able to finish strong.

“The hardest part of the game was connecting out passes because at the beginning of the game we came out a little sloppy, but then we picked it up,“ Savanna Conde (12)  said.

Even though the girls did not start super strong, they came out fighting and winning.

“Although the outcome, we got many touches on the ball,” Paisley Mabra (10) said. “The main thing coach said we need to work on coming from this game is our first touch.”

The team was able to work on their aggressiveness and striking the ball early on in the game to improve their skills for future games.

“Moving into the playoffs, there is very tough competition as we move through our region,” Coach Gerald Slovacek said.  “We are taking each game one at a time, and focusing on what is directly in front of us.”
