Blizzard Entertainment will officially release ‘Overwatch 2’ on Feb. 19, 2021. This multiplayer game will be available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on PC. Eventually, the game will be available on Xbox series X and Playstation 5. The gameplay of Overwatch 2 will be different from the original gameplay of the first game. The current Overwatch gameplay is a multiplayer, 6 versus 6 team setup. The new setup is based on achieving goals through multiplayer player versus player gameplay, rather than the original sole purpose of winning.

Many players worldwide have stuck around since the beginning and will be there for the new release, even with the changed features and setup.

“I’ve been playing since Beta, which was October of 2015,” Peyton Sanders (10) said.

It is possible that you will see a few new faces among the line of playable heroes, as well as upgraded designs to the original characters. The game’s design will be a fresh place to start as an Overwatch player. Some information about the game is still unknown, as to any new hero abilities that may be included. Many are excited to see what is in store for them.

“Some combo attacks would be really cool, maybe some new game modes too,” Isabel Torrez (10) said. “Maybe some possible new characters or updates to their designs.”

It’s possible that this new gameplay style will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there is a chance the fan base could be expanded with this release. Considering the price of the original game, which is around sixty dollars, it may take time for more people to buy the game. The potential price for Overwatch 2 is unknown at this time.

“I would have to see it first in action,” Andrew Wall (11) said. “Honestly, I had no idea a sequel was coming out until just now.”

Some people have been skeptical about how the gameplay will change and have a whole new playing style. Many wonder if it will be as likable as the original, and fail as an upgrade. Others feel it will make the Overwatch experience even more enjoyable.

“I think that with how many different types of games there are, there is bound to be people who like it and are good at it, seeing as I haven’t played it, and neither has anyone else, I can’t say for sure,” Torrez said. “But based off of the original game, I’m sure it will be fantastic.”
