Girl’s Varsity basketball defeated Maypearl in their game last Friday, December 11, with a score of 46-45. It was a close game, with each team putting forth their best effort to score.

“Winning that game meant a lot to me,” Grace Sweeney (9) said. “I felt as if it meant that to our team that we can persevere through rough times during the game and push through.”

After winning a close game against Kennedale on the 8th, this win bolstered team spirit and was a fight to the very end.

“Winning the game felt like me showing everyone what Heritage is made of,” Asia Purnell (11) said. “We don’t give up even when it looks bleak. My team also played amazing. They worked their butts off on defense and ultimately, defense wins games.”

The team has practiced hard and bonded together as teammates to make this season even better than their last. Constant strength-building and skills drills have increased their strength, stamina, and confidence to help them win games.

“I think that this season is going good,” Jerzie Bryant (10) said. “We have lost some games, but we are starting to play as a whole, so it’s going good even when we lose.”

With a record now of seven wins and four losses, the girls play Alvarado on the 15th in what promises to be a highly competitive game.

“This season is definitely different than last year,” Purnell said. “As a team, we’re working hard every day to achieve the goal of going to state. I’m giving my all in practice and communicating with my teammates about what we need to do for our next opponent.”
