New Season, New Team, New Outcomes

On Dec. 11 the varsity boy’s soccer team lost their scrimmage against Joshua High School 2-1. Joshua is a 5-A school which is much bigger than Heritage, and this opponent was bigger than others the team has played.

The varsity boys have not played since March due to previous cancellations of their previous season. This scrimmage let them try new positions and work as a team fighting against another team together for the first time in a while.

“In the scrimmage, we did well adjusting to different positions coach put us in,” Noah May (12) said. “Many of us played positions foreign to us, but those experiments were necessary to get an idea of our best starting formation for the season.”

With the loss of players from last year and many new players on the team this year, the boys are having to adjust to new positions and make it work.

“Our team did a great job of allowing different players to play different positions to see our possibilities,” Brock Smalley (12) said.

Despite the loss of the scrimmage, the boys kept fighting even after they were worn out.

“Our team kept fighting and our new varsity members did surprisingly well,” Wesley Nelson (11) said.

Even though the team lost their scrimmage they are using this game as a guide to see where they will work in the future.

“The hardest part of the game was surely figuring out what we all bring to the table,” Joseph Nguyen (12) said. “We have a lot of players this year and it’s important for us to identify our roles and where we all fit into the team together.”
