Total annihilation is how some would describe Heritage Swim’s recent victory over Carrollton. Swimming is one of the most physically challenging sports. Heritage’s champion team swims September to February, making it the longest in-season of any sport. And on October 28th, they added another link in their chain of success.

“We most recently swam against Carrollton and we won in both the boys and girls,” swim coach, Daniel Meager said.

But this is only the most recent in a line of victories.

“Last year the team was pretty good,” Colton Landon (12) said. “We took five kids to state, one of which placed top ten”.

While this year has changed due to COVID-19, lowering the number of teams they can face at any given meet, it’s apparent no virus is keeping the swim team down.

“We’re really excited about this year,” Meager said. “Even the virus has had little effect”.

However, all this victory comes from an underdog team, given the lack of resources.

“Our facilities are worse,” Matthew Thomas (12) said. “We swim in pools about four feet deep and twenty yards long, so we’re doing better with worse”.

But despite these disadvantages, hard work paves the way to victory.

“I practice four hours a day, five days a week,” Jackson Chambers (11) said. “It’s really intense”.

The intense training clearly paid off in the meet.

“We’re working hard this year,” Coach Meager said. “We’re feeling pretty good about our chances”.

With all this on their side, Carrollton stood no chance.

“Heritage showed up, we won every individual event, and left,” Chamber
