On Friday, September 18 the Heritage Varsity football team played the Paris Wildcats at the MISD Stadium. This game was predicted to be a close one due to both teams being very good but resulted in the win of the Paris Wildcats with a final score of 28-14.

“This game was predicted to be close because Paris is very good,” Carson Walker (12) said. “It was going to be a battle back and forth until the clock hit zero.”

Despite the loss of the game Friday, the football players and coaches are keeping their heads high and focusing on the positives.

We did a ton of things well against Paris,” Coach Lee Wiginton said.  “The best thing was the way the team competed.  This team is going to give you everything it has to the very last tick of the clock in every game of the season.”

As a team, the football players believe that they did a lot of things good, but they feel as though they can always improve.

“I think as a team we all played hard, but on defense, we didn’t make tackles when we needed to and that led to them taking the lead over us,” Scott Ellis (12) said.

The team is taking this loss as a lesson in order to keep on going toward future games. With district starting next month, the coaches and players hope to see the value in the loss or win of a game,

Both winning and losing in non-district games have the potential to serve a valuable purpose,”

Wiginton said. “You obviously hate to lose at anything.  Our athletes and coaches work so hard and prepare like every game is the most important game in the world.  With that being said, it’s going to hurt when you come up short.  But there’s a lot of very good things that will come from a game like this.”
