10 Ways to Spread Kindness in Isolation

10+Ways+to+Spread+Kindness+in+Isolation

Maxie Eller, Newspaper Editor-In-Chief

It is becoming kind of depressing to read the news every day. Between coronavirus, the economy, and everything going on in politics, the world is not a cheery place. That is why I have compiled a list of ten things that you can do to spread kindness even in isolation. Here they are:

  1. Write A Letter

Let’s be honest, receiving a letter in the mail is exciting. Writing your thoughts down with a good, old-fashioned pen and paper is a lot of fun. Just stick a stamp on your envelope, put it in the mailbox, and that’s it! I personally got a letter this week from one of my friends, and it pretty much made my day. If you can’t write a letter (or think it’s lame, which would be disappointing) then send an email or a text. Call someone! Just keep in touch with other people besides the ones that you’re quarantined with.

  1. Order Food To Be Delivered

Doing this would be kind to not only the person you decide to order food for but also to the restaurant that gets to create the meal. Services like DoorDash and GrubHub are great sources to have food delivered to a friend or family member. Not only do they get to have a good meal and feel appreciated, but it supports local restaurants who are really struggling right now.

  1. Make Your Own Food

Some of the best ways to share love and joy is through food. It’s even better when you bake or cook something for someone else. Baking cookies and delivering them to a friend or neighbor is a great way to make someone’s day. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be delicious!

  1. Decorate Someone’s House

I have seen images of this all over the internet, and I think that this would be so much fun. The idea is to go to someone’s house and decorate their yard and door with stuff without them seeing you. It could be anything from notes to candy to random objects. The more creative, the better!

  1. Create Sidewalk Art

The only things that you need to complete this activity is a piece of chalk and some concrete. Write a nice message, draw a funny picture, or doodle on the street. You don’t have to be a Picasso to make someone smile from your art.

  1. Drive-By A Friend’s House

There are videos everywhere showing friends, family, and even teachers driving by homes in their cars, waving signs and yelling inspiring messages. Drive around your neighborhood and spread some cheer.

  1. Be Nice To Your Family

It’s nice to do things for other people, but it’s even more important to do nice things for the people that you are living with. Try and make their days brighter. Make their bed, clean up the house, play with your siblings, etc.

  1. Make Masks

I personally can’t sew or knit, but I think that it would be fun to learn how! People all over the world are creating masks and gowns for hospitals and medical facilities. Not only do you get a new hobby, but you also get to help someone else.

  1. Make A Scavenger Hunt

Just because you can’t meet in person doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun with your friends. Set out clues and items around your neighborhood for your friends to find and watch as they joyfully make their way from one location to the next.

  1. Write A Thank-you Note To An Essential Worker

The best way to make someone’s day is to pay them a compliment. In these times, the people who could really use some cheer are hospital workers, first responders, delivery people, and retail workers. Take a minute to write them a note or to say thank-you. It will definitely make their day.
