  1. Throne of Glass – Sarah J Maas – YA

Throne of Glass is a fantasy series written by Sarah J Maas (who also happens to be my favorite author). The series is a dystopian fantasy about a female assassin named Celaena Sardothian. The books follow her adventures living in a kingdom that is under the rule of a tyrannical leader. This series is one of my absolute favorites. All of the characters are unique and likeable and I think there is a mix of everything, so anyone could enjoy this series. There is action, romance, comedy, and magic! The lore is fascinating and the characters are all given time to be properly fleshed out. This series is currently completed and I love it so much! I would highly recommend this series/ this book to anyone who is looking for a high fantasy story with some good action.

2. A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J Maas – Adult

A Court of Thorns and Roses is yet another fantasy series written by Sarah J Maas. Did I mention she was my favorite author? This series follows a girl named Feyre Archeron, a young woman who gets taken away from her two sisters and widowed father and into the faerie kingdom to pay the ultimate price for killing a faerie: her love. This series is different from Throne of Glass in that it pretty much has two big genres: romance and fantasy. For the sake of not spoiling anything, I sadly can’t mention my favorite character. However, the books get better as you read them and the story is charming and captivating. Watching Feyre fight for the things and people she loves and watching her develop into an even stronger character is so rewarding. I would like to mention that although this series can be found under most young adult sections in libraries and bookstores, I (and most other people) rate this book as adult. There are some naughty words and some scenes that might make people uncomfortable, so be aware of that when reading. I personally just skimmed those pages for the sake of keeping my innocence intact.

3. Caraval – Stephanie Garber – YA

This fantasy series is about a girl named Scarlett who lives with her abusive father and her younger sister Tella. She and Tella have always dreamed of going to Caraval, a magical gameshow, to escape the clutches of their father. One year she and her sister sneak out to Caraval but quickly discover it’s not what she once thought it was, as the game master kidnaps her sister. The book follows her adventures in trying to win Tella back by working her way through the game and trying to come out of it victorious. There is romance, action, and mystery in this enthralling book. I sadly haven’t had the chance to read the last two books in the trilogy, but I hear they are just as good.

4. The Unexpected Everything – Morgan Matson – YA

The Unexpected Everything is the perfect book for this upcoming summer. Actually, most Morgan Matson books are perfect for summer. The book’s main character Andie is a really smart and successful student who thinks she has her perfect summer planned out, but everything changes when her political father gets thrown into a scandal and her summer med program is canceled. She finds herself taking a job being a dog walker and meets some interesting people as the book progresses. The Unexpected Everything is a really fun read and you’ll honestly feel like you’re flying through the book. This book falls under realistic fiction/ romance, so if that kind of thing is your cup of tea then I highly recommend this!

5. Passenger – Alexandra Bracken – YA

Passenger is the first book in an adventure/ science fiction duology and is one of the only science fiction books that I’ve ever been able to really get into. This is an incredibly entertaining series that incorporates time travel, which is a story element that I feel can often get messed up if not handled properly. This book does it masterfully however and its characters just make the story that much better. The story is about a girl named Etta who finds herself being a PASSENGER on a boat (hehehe) during a year that she was never alive for. A powerful and dangerous colonial family called the Ironwoods are hunting her down, as they believe she is the one person who can find a valuable item that was stolen from them. She embarks on a journey with a man named Nicholas, a guy who works on the ship that she ended up landing on. Together they travel through time as they uncover the mystery of what happened to this special object and what they must do to get it back. It’s been awhile since I’ve read this book, but my love for it has clearly not dampened. I highly recommend this to any science fiction fans out there!
