Billie Eilish released her new song and music video, “Bury a Friend,” this past week. The song has a deeper meaning behind the lyrics. In her music, she has always been very open and raw. She tells the world how she really feels.

I believe that the buried message behind the song is how she is her own enemy. She struggles with the fight of her own feelings and pain. With the lyrics, “Why aren’t you scared of me? Why do you care for me?” show her hardships with herself and her own mind. This song offers many different interpretations but lets the audience understand that she is her biggest enemy. A lot of fans have predicted that the true definition of the song is depression and the thought process people go through when they experience it.

The music video is full of creepy and paranormal objects that I believe are supposed to represent the fears people go through in their own minds. The lyrics and video both pair with the views of self-struggle and depression. Billie did a very good job of getting the pair across through her own interpretation of how the mind works in some of the most fearful times.
