OPINION: Illegal Mexican Immigrants come to our Country
October 14, 2016
Illegal immigration is a growing problem in the United States. It’s been a problem for decades, but lately it’s become increasingly worse. According to Pew Research Center, we have a total of 17.7 million Mexican people living in our country illegally. That’s ridiculous and should not be allowed; it needs to be dealt with.
Our health care system is being taken advantage of by 53% of people living in our country illegally, and that’s 53% too many. We shouldn’t have to be paying for anyone that doesn’t belong to our country. The American peoples’ money should be going to other Americans who are in need of health care assistance, not the Mexican immigrants who came looking for a way out. The Affordable Care Act has increased health insurance coverage of immigrants, especially non citizens, at a greater rate than the U.S. born population. So what does that mean for American families? It means significant cuts in health care coverage so that a foreign family could have more benefits than an American family. We shouldn’t have to suffer because a foreign family decided to take the risk of leaving their country and come to one that can barely afford to support itself financially. This Country is in $19.4 trillion dollars of debt, and I don’t think we can afford another citizen who’s not our own.
The average American is being robbed of their jobs because of how much illegal immigration from Mexico has effected our economy. Mexican immigrants accounted for nearly 8 million of the 159.5 million workers in the civilian labor force, the percentage of foreign born workers in the civilian labor force more than tripled from 5 percent to 17 percent. We as american citizens shouldn’t have to fight a person who doesn’t lawfully live in our country for a simple job to support our American born and raised families. The number of jobs occupied by Mexican immigrants in Texas alone is 1.3 million. That’s a huge number compared to the number of citizens we have in Texas (26.96 million), which means that’s 1.3 million Texas families don’t have a job because of a person living in our country illegally from Mexico.
I understand that a respectable family from Mexico who is looking to get away from the hardship and violence of Mexico might try to come to America in pursuit of a better life. Maybe they can’t afford to apply for a green card so they cross over illegally. They should behave as if they had a green card by working and providing for their family, show allegiance to their country and contribute as citizens. I believe it is best to do everything legally, not only so you’re not in constant hiding but also to be able to give back to the country. I believe that anyone who is causing harm to our country and is here illegally should be sent back to their country for the wellbeing of our country and our country’s citizens.
